Miami Beach is a separate municipality located on a thin strip of island across the Biscayne Bay from the city of Miami. It can be reached by driving the MacArthur, Julia Tuttle, or one of three other bridges and causeways. Miami Beach is perhaps best known for its white sandy beaches, clear water, art deco architecture and nightlife.
Beyond the radiant sun, surf and sand, discover Miami Beach’s rich history as an entertainment and cultural destination, from world-famous Art Deco architecture to renowned nightclubs to designer fashions on Collins Avenue and Lincoln Road. There’s so much going on in Miami Beach, you’ll need an extra hour to enjoy everything that makes this city so vibrant. As the world’s elite playground, Miami Beach promises a 25-hour day; and whether you are an arts enthusiast, foodie, shopaholic, socialite or sun worshipper, there are plenty of options for where to spend that extra hour (or at least wish you had).
Miami Beach is a smash-up of everything that is wonderful and over-the-top about South Florida. It's both a fabled paradise for celebrities and sun worshipers and a patchwork of family-friendly neighbourhoods and residential beaches. It's a place where noisy club goers don't rev up for a night of revelry until after midnight, while elsewhere on the island sleepy seniors hit the hay by nine. It's food and fashion, surf and spring break, and beach bums and bikinis rolled into one. But what Miami Beach isn't, is a neighbourhood of Miami proper. This seven-square-mile island is its own separate city with a population of nearly 90,000, and you can mingle with them when you stay at one of the pleasant hotels on the beach.
You can be forgiven for wanting to do no more than head straight for the water, where you can hop on a kayak, charter a yacht, or just stick close to the sand or curl up on a hammock. Whatever you want to do, Miami Beach delivers |
